Among those served are at-risk youth, people with disabilities, and executives.

Help begins with an assessment of the client’s skills and interests, after which the organization provides resources such as mentoring, vocational training, and career guidance. JVSLA also offers programs that focus on refugees and immigrants, veterans, women, and youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. JVSLA is guided by the Jewish values of respect for the individual, the imperative of moral action, and the belief that we all have a responsibility to “repair the world.”

House of Ruth Offers Help to People Who are Homeless in Los Angeles

Jonathan David’s Tapstone Holdings focuses on creating effective marketing plans and media buys. As the CEO, Jonathan David operates Tapstone Holdings on a basis of mutual respect with his clients. Jon David’s charitable giving includes the House of Ruth in Los Angeles.

The House of Ruth’s vision statement promotes independence and stability for homeless women, including those in abusive relationships. It accomplishes this by finding temporary, transitional, and permanent housing for them and their children.

Many agencies address the problem of homelessness by providing two weeks of shelter with little follow-up. However, the House of Ruth offers an approach that is aimed to prevent families from needing to return to shelters.

The organization believes in providing a range of services that go beyond sheltering, such as supportive programs and an aftercare program. The agency addresses mental health issues, child care, crisis counseling, and life skills development. Most importantly, the House of Ruth establishes a peer atmosphere, in which people who have overcome homelessness share their hope and strength.

This process has proven to be successful. Fully 95% of the families served by the House of Ruth remain housed for the long term.

Youth Services at JVS Los Angeles

Jonathan “Jon” David is founder and CEO of media-buying and optimization company Tapstone Holdings, headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Outside of his responsibilities at Tapstone, Jonathan David is active in charity work and is a supporter of Jewish Vocational Services (JVS).

Established in the early 1930s after the Great Depression, JVS continues with its work of helping individuals overcome obstacles to finding jobs so that they can support their families, regain their dignity, and become productive members of their communities.

At JVS Los Angeles, Youth Services are programs designed to help at-risk youth receive job training as well as assistance in setting education and career goals so that they will be prepared to lead productive lives. One such service, A Girl’s Place, partners with the Los Angeles County Department of Probation to offer individualized services to high-risk high school girls, encouraging positive living and helping them improve their self-esteem. Another program, the Community Service Block Grant, provides career-planning and job placement assistance to youths aged 16 to 24 from low-income backgrounds.
